Singles Awareness Day?

Or at least, that’s what my friends tell me it should be called.

I kinda have to say that’s what some people treat it like.

Weekly Writing Challenge: My Funny Valentine?.

Many of us nerd-types (though not all) know all too well the kind of depression that simmers in your brain as you blankly stare ahead at your friends and their lovers.  And sure, you’re happy for them, but somewhere in the back of your mind, there’s this green monster that’s nibbling on the edges of your heart.

And well, I hate to break it to you, but most of us probably aren’t going to get a date with in the next few hours.

It sucks.  I know.

But as our Lord and savior Cave Johnson once said:

When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons!

And really, that’s kinda what you have to do.  Valentine’s Day is what you make of it.  Sure, you can sulk and feel terrible because you don’t have a romantic Valentine.  Anyone can do that.  Or you can invent combustible lemons and burn life’s house down with them.

Your choice.

But seriously, work with me here.  Just ask come random friends to hang out with you.  Ladies, there’s nothing wrong with a girl’s night in and watching rom-coms until 2 A.M. And gentlemen, video games were invented for a reason.  Or maybe you gentlemen want to watch rom-coms while the ladies play video games.  I don’t care.

But maybe all your friends have dates, or you’re too shy to send out the Facebook invitation, or maybe you feel kind of isolated and lonely, like you don’t have any friends at all.  I’ll bet you anything your mom is dying to hear from you.  Give her a call.  Better yet, sit down and watch some wacky foreign movie on Netflix with her.  Or maybe your dad’s been feeling kinda down lately.  Maybe it’s something at work, or maybe something’s just not working out how he hoped. Maybe take this opportunity to introduce him to the TV series Sherlock.  I’m sure he’ll love it.

Be it your lover, your friend, your mother, or your father, make sure you tell someone you love them this Valentine’s Day.

And then I think you’ll see the little bit of redeeming value in an otherwise kind of lame, cooperate holiday.

Happy Valentines Day, you guys.

Lots of Love!

Lots of Love!
